The Donahue-Cockrell Debate covers the topic of the point of salvation. The proposition discussed in this written debate is "The Bible teaches that a sinner is saved at the point of faith in Christ before baptism in water." Milburn Cockrell (Baptist) affirms, Patrick Donahue (church of Christ) denies.

This debate was originally published in two periodicals: The Guardian of Truth, and The Berea Baptist Banner in 1994.

The debate can be read in pdf format here.

Cockrell says of Donahue:
Mr. Donahue and I have spoken over the phone and by correspondence, but we have never met face to face. Therefore, we do not have any personal ax to grind. I feel sure from what I have heard of my opponent that he is an honorable and sincere man. He is one of the most able debaters of his people, and he is qualified to defend the position of his people. We will no doubt hear from him the best defense that they can offer the Baptists.

At the end of each article is a series of questions for the other one to answer.
