This book contains several of the author’s essays and one essay by a different author, J. Busse, on Bible translation. Most of the material in this book covers data and case studies on Bible translations into African languages, there is another essay dealing with the translation of Biblical key concepts into Chinese (pp. 137-164). The major part of this book is in German; however, the essay on “Contrasting World Views in Christianity and Animism” (pp. 81-94) is in English. The material presented in this book attests to the close interrelation of Bible translation, source and target languages, Christian mission and native culture. For, what can a Bible translator do if there is no word for the God of the Bible in the target language into which the Bible is to be translated? Large contents of this book have also been used in programmes of Applied Linguistics at graduate course level for the training of Bible translators.

The text of this book was originally written for two undergraduate level course in “Biblical Hebrew” and “Biblical Greek” respectively for Nations University (http://www.nationsu.edu) and later developed further into a textbook published by Viademica Publishers in Berlin, Germany (2009). The first part of this book covers the course material for Biblical Hebrew with all course modules and course module exams. The second part covers the same for Biblical Greek. Some of the later course modules cover special aspects of text witnesses and textual transmission of original Biblical manuscripts as well as practice modules on working with texts in the original Biblical languages.

They contain portions of Biblical text (for Hebrew it is Genesis 1, for New Testament Greek it is John 1) with sound files embedded so that students can practice reading the Hebrew or Greek script simultaneously while reading and listening to the text being read aloud. Note that this textbook is an introduction and is not intended as a substitute for a solid textbook covering Biblical Hebrew or Greek in depth.

Lutheran Christians celebrate this year the 500th anniversary of the reformation that originally took place in Germany some 500 years ago, and Martin Luther’s German Bible translation was one of the highlights of the same with a long-lasting impact, and German Lutheran Christians have been in praise of its readability, style, and rhythm of language that makes memorizing Bible verses easy ever since. This small book is a critical study of Luther’s translation, comparing about 11 selected Bible passages from the Old and New Testament in Luther’s text with the respective Biblical Hebrew and Greek original passages to estimate the accuracy of his translation into German in the light of the original inspired texts. Some more material covering the basic principles of Bible translation in general complement this study at the end of this small book.

This text of this book was originally written for a graduate level course in “Comparative Religion - Islam and Christianity” for Nations University (http://www.nationsu.edu) and later developed further into a textbook published by Viademica Publishers in Berlin, Germany (2006). In the first part, it provides an introduction to Islam - its history, central doctrines, culture and institutions, exegesis and interpretation of Islamic religious texts as well as some basic information on the concept of “Jihad”, often falsely translated as “Holy War”. In its second part, it discusses central comparative issues between Islam and Christianity like Deity of Christ, Trinity, and similar topics and Islamic responses to it. Its main purpose is to enable Christians to engage in an informed and intelligent discussion with Moslems in inter religious dialogue and/or making converts to Christianity. Some additional texts in German at the end of this book complement the main material, written originally in English. This material is still being used in a Church of Christ setting to train pastors and teachers in a Master graduate course level. It may also benefit a non-student audience who desire to know more about Islam and what divides Christianity and Islam in terms of doctrine.

Luther’s Bible texts in your software may contain words or word forms with initial uppercase letters, which is very frequent in modern written German. #2930 Bible Concordances for Biblical Hebrew and Greek

Posted by gangs on 22 February 2017 - 05:24 PM in The Word Modules / Resources

Word Cocordances for original Hebrew and Greek Biblical scripture are also important tools for Bible translators. Next to my theological education,. I also hiold advanced degrees in Linguistics and Chinese. I guess for getting involved in a Bible translation project, this is a good foundation.

Independent translation project like ours are not linked to any Bible translatrion agency or other organisationj in the field and therefore do not have access to software like Paratext or similar software that assists in achievinmg the task. We therfefore create most of the tools to assist Bible translators ourselves. Upon completion, we distribute these tools to the members of our translation committee.

Here is a pic to one of my works, concordance to the Tanakh (Hebrew Old Testament). You may disregard the other work which is on an ancient Chinese classic and irrelevant here.

This is what the Tanakh concordance tool will look like:
http://prnt.sc/eb6xmk

I have made other concordances for Biblical Greek in the same format for 5 major New GreeK Testament editions.

I am willing to share these resources for free with anyone interested. They will also be published as commercial print copies to generate funds for Bible translation project.

Anyone interested to obtain an ebook copy pls drop me a note.

#2919 GNT texts without accemts are quite annoying!

Posted by gangs on 13 January 2017 - 07:01 AM in Module Content

While I can appreciat the reasons why there are so many unaccented Greek New Testament text versions without accents are out there, there are pretty useless for the serious scholar and Bible translalator. Commercial version all hve the accented text versions, and I think it's time to change that for good free Bible sotware like The Word.

Therefore I have '.rtf files avaivable for the following Greek New Testament text versions, all of them with accents:

1. Byzantine
2. SBL
3. Tischendorf
4. Tregelles
5. Westcott & Hort

I also have the Greek text of the Septuaginta in accented form available as an *.rtf document.

Anyone interested in these files? Drop me note, and I will provide a download link directly from my homepage.

Have a nice day!
