Expositions of the Bible by John Gill (1697-1771)

THIS MODULE IS ALMOST COMPLETE!!!

John Gill’s commentaries on the Bible helped solidify the shift in Reformed thinking in the eighteenth
century.
These expository commentaries are key for the study of the development of Baptist and
Reformed theological
exegesis, and a must for any student serious about studying the Reformed tradition.
Gill’s writings helped to define and encourage Reformed thinking in the eighteenth century. Considered
to be the first major Baptist scholar, Gill continues to shape modern Calvinism. Although modern scholars
debate about Gill’s role as the father of Baptist hyper-Calvinism, it cannot be denied that at the very least,
he was a forerunner to that tradition. During his lifetime, Gill and his church backed the preaching and
ministry of George Whitefield. His work represents not only essential eighteenth-century biblical
scholarship, but a turning point in Reformed theology.

Gill’s commentaries are still widely used today by laity and pastors, being theologically sound and practical
for daily study. Gill makes the Scripture accessible and applicable to the everyday reader, believing that
sound doctrine impacts daily life. Containing over 7,000 pages, The Expositions of John Gill is an essential
resource for any student of the Scriptures and of Reformed thinking. Perfect for the general reader, professors,
and Bible scholars, these Bible Expositions will enlighten, encourage, and stimulate one’s thinking and Bible
study.

Dr John Gill's greatest work was the nine volumes he authored of his Exposition of the Bible. All nine volumes
will be included in this module. Dr Gill was a Baptist pastor and served his congregation for 51 years. During
this time, he became a prolific author. In 1757 his congregation needed larger premises and moved to Carter
Lane, St. Olave's Street, Southwark in London, England. This Baptist church was once pastored by Benjamin
Keach
and later became the New Park Street Chapel and then the Metropolitan Tabernacle, pastored by Charles
Spurgeon
.

This Module is almost Complete! It features all of John Gill's Complete Commentary and
Exposition on every Book of the Bible.
The New Testatment (all 27 Books) is now Complete! As of 02/06/25,
64 Books of the Bible are now Complete. Module size when completed, should be approximaterly 225 MB.

This Commentary by John Gill is organized with Book Notes and Chapter Notes only. Verse Notes are possible,
but much easier at this time to create this module with just Book Notes and Chapter Notes.
However,
many of the
verses will come with their own separate and distinct footnotes.
Some of these footnotes aren't very useful. For this
reason I have considered
deleting them from the module. Perhaps you will find them to be useful in your studies.

[Only Books Marked in Red or Blue have been completed or edited]
The Date in Red is Date the Book was Completed.
Chapters in Blue are what has been completed for that Book.
There will be a Menu for each Book at the End of the Book Notes.
For an example of these Menus, Check out the Book Notes for Genesis.

This has been referred to in my Comments above, but let me repeat
that the Book Notes in the Gill Module will contain a Simple Menu with
Hyperlinks to each chapter. Now, when you click on just the "Book" to
view the Book Notes for a particular book of the Bible, just scroll down
to view the Menu for that book. Each link will have to the right of the link,
a brief descriptive phrase explaining what a particular chapter is about.
