The Original Pulpit Commentary

This Updated Version for 2025 is COMPLETE!
My Hardback Version of the Pulpit Commentary which I have used for
many years, is copyrighted 1950 by Eerdman's. 23 volumes and over
22,000 pages. This module is being created using an even earlier
edition of the Pulpit Commentary, one that was published by the Funk &
Wagnall's Company in 1909. One difference I have noticed in the two, is
that some (if not all) of the charts found in the Funk & Wagnall's Edition(s)
are not included in the 1950 publication by Eerdmans.
Errors in this Module
Been preaching for many years, but I still make mistakes.
Not intentionally, I have been more concerned about the
formatting of the text and still have probably let some
errors slip past me.
If you find any errors, please let me know by sending me
a review, so I can correct it. It has been over 50 yrs since
I was in Bible College, so my knowledge of Greek and
Hebrew is a little "rusty." Anyway, let me know of any
problems. Make note of the Book and chapter where any
error or grammar mistake occurs. I will compare things
with the 1909 and 1950 edition(s) to correct mistakes.
Since the early editions of the Pulpit Commentary were
published in England, keep in mind that what appears to
be a mistake may simply be due to the variation(s) of English
used in Great Britain at the time of publication. Such obvious
differences that are due to the form(s) of English used in the
United States and England are not of my concern in the
creation of this module.
THIS MODULE IS NOW COMPLETE!!
ABOUT THIS COMMENTARY MODULE:
(1) It is formatted using only the Book Notes and Chapter Notes.
(2) No plans yet on Verse Notes, but thinking of adding a top-quality
.....Commentary such as Lange's, Henry, Joseph Parker, or Burton
.....Coffman to the Verse Notes (but that's on the back-burner for now)
.....If there are requests for such a feature, then I may reconsider. I have
.....even thought of adding Greek Word Studies, etc... to the New
.....Testament portion of this Commentary.
(3) Features Left and Right Margins creating a look more like that
.....of a proper Book, and more professional in appearance.
(4) There is a "Homiletical Index" for each Book, found at the end
.....of the Book Notes. However, time may not allow me the luxury of
.....spending a lot of time on that. Anyone who wants to, can create the
.....necessary Hyperlinks. I am not going to have the time for that. Have
.....too many other modules to work on!
(5) Features Numerous Hebrew and/or Greek Word Studies as found in the
.....Original Edition of the Pulpit Commentary by Spence and Exell
(6) This Revision is based on the Edition as published by Funk & Wagnalls
......and first copyrighted in 1909.

After Adding Genesis and Exodus to this new Revision of the Pulpit Commentary,
the filesize (uncompressed) was 33MB. After compressing the Module file the
filesize (compressed) was 4 MB in size. A significant reduction. This may also
slow down "searches" of the text in this this module.
