Matthew Poole Bible Commentary ©1853
This Module was begun on 10/13/25, and Finished on 10/17/25

Here is what Charles H. Spurgeon said about Matthew Poole:
"If I must have only one commentary, and had read Matthew
Henry as I have, I do no know but what I should choose Poole.
He is a very prudent and judicious commentator...not so pithy
and witty by far as Matthew Henry, but he is perhaps more
accurate, less a commentator, and more an expositor."

The Old Testament is COMPLETED!
The New Testament is also COMPLETED!

Added 1-2 Kings and 1-2 Chronicles (10/14/25)
Added Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, and Job (10/15/25)
Added Psalms 1-150, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song (10/15/25)
Added Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Lamentations (10/15/25)
Added Ezekiel and Daniel (10/15/25)
Added All Twelve of the Minor Prophets (10/16/25)
Added Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (10/16/25)

Added the books of Acts thru Revelation (10/17/25)

I still need to touch-up portions of Col 3 and Col 4, but
they are "useable" as they are. Will get to that this weekend.
have fun and enjoy this commentary! I am beginning to

see what Spurgeon meant by Matthew Poole being more
accurate than Matthew Henry in much of his commentary.

Some Information about the Creation of this Module:

  • I created the source documents for this Commentary using Microsoft Office 2019.
  • They were formatted using the Times Roman Font (12pt.),
  • Left Margins and Right Margins for proper viewing in TheWord.
  • Paragraph alignment was set using Full-Justification of the text.
  • I could have done this quicker, but am more interested in producing a
module that reads and looks more like a digital book, etc.
Please note that Poole's Commentary and notes for Job and the Psalms
are really very, very useful and definitely helpful when studying these
books in particular. It seems that Poole's Commentary on the books of
the Pentateuch and the Historical books of the Old Testament, don't have
as much Commentary as one might might expect in such a work. However,
he makes up for it in the Wisdom and Poetry books, as well as the Major
and Minor Prophets! So far, his commentary on the Four Gospels are very,
very Good! (10/15/25)

All Original Commentary by Poole is arranged according
to Book Notes and Chapter Notes
